Am I Ready to Become a Mentor?
One of the questions I hear most often is:
"Do you really think I could mentor someone?"
Sometimes the question comes from a woman who has served faithfully in church for years. Sometimes it's from a business owner who naturally encourages others. Sometimes it's from someone who quietly says,
"I don't know enough."
What's interesting is that the women who ask this question are often the very women God is preparing. Why?
Because humility usually asks questions.
Pride assumes it already has the answers.
God Rarely Calls the Person Who Feels Completely Ready
Throughout Scripture, God called ordinary people who often felt inadequate.
Moses questioned his ability to speak.
Jeremiah believed he was too young.
Gideon considered himself the least likely.
Peter knew his own failures all too well.
Yet God looked beyond their limitations and saw hearts willing to obey.
Perhaps you've been waiting until you feel "qualified." What if God is waiting for your willingness instead?
Five Signs God May Be Preparing You
1. People naturally seek your encouragement.
Have you noticed others confiding in you?
Do they ask for prayer or wisdom?
Often, God uses those moments to reveal where He may be leading you.
2. Your heart breaks for women who are struggling.
Compassion is often the first evidence of a mentoring heart.
You don't simply notice pain.
You want to help someone walk through it.
3. You love God's Word.
A mentor doesn't need to know everything.
But she should continually grow in biblical wisdom.
Mentoring begins by being mentored by Christ.
4. You are teachable.
The best mentors never stop learning.
They remain students of Scripture and of life.
Humility keeps us growing.
5. You desire to make an eternal difference.
You want your life to count for more than personal success.
You long to leave a legacy of faith.
That desire doesn't come from ambition alone.
It often comes from the Holy Spirit.
Ready Doesn't Mean Perfect
Sometimes we imagine that mentors have reached the finish line. The truth is, mentors are simply a little farther down the path, willing to turn around and help someone else.
You don't need to know everything.
You simply need to faithfully share what God has already taught you.
One woman may need encouragement in an area where you've already experienced God's faithfulness.
That's enough.
Life Application
Instead of asking,
"Am I qualified?"
Ask,
"Am I willing?"
God has always supplied what His calling requires.
Spend time this week asking Him to reveal where He may already be preparing you to invest in someone else's life.

How has God prepared you through your own life experiences?
What would change if you trusted His calling more than your own doubts?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for choosing ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary Kingdom purposes.
Forgive me for the times I've allowed fear or self-doubt to keep me from saying yes to You.
Help me trust that You are more than able to equip those You call.
Continue shaping my heart, deepening my faith, and preparing me to encourage others with humility and compassion.
May my life always point others toward Jesus. In His precious name, amen.
